This is for the Energy Subcommittee/Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications Committees, who may think they can ignore our pleas to save us from the extremely dangerous "smart" meters. Tell them we will "Remember in November" if they don't care enough about us and our children to allow a FREE opt out (with no power customers paying for the opt out), and only safe, analog meters (no modified "smart" meters):
I was informed today that some on your Committees may try to escape from voting on Senate Bill 459, an opt out option for "smart" meters. That would be a shameful thing for you to do.
You have a responsibility to protect the people of Georgia and their property. You have been informed for a while now about the extreme dangers of “smart” meter electric meters. The topic is so popular, there was a news segment on CBS Atlanta 46 TWICE on Monday (http://www.cbsatlanta.com/story/17193296/power-customers-believe-smart-meters-cause-health-issues). Your Energy Subcommittee is mentioned two times in the report, I believe.
If you elect not to pass Senate Bill 459, for an opt out option for "smart" meter digital electric meters, through your Committee and on to the Rules Committee, to be voted on by the House of Representatives, it will be for no other reason than a conflict of interest. You have more of an interest in something other than protecting the people of Georgia than you have in doing the job they elected you to do.
If Senate Bill 459 does not get passed on to the Rules Committee by you, there are many, many citizens of Georgia that will make it their personal business to make sure your constituents are well aware that you knew the dangers that “smart” meters present – that they can catch fire, explode, melt, and shoot radiation through your home and everyone in it hundreds of times a day, not to mention possibly doubling or tripling your bill – and you STILL decided that SOMETHING was more important than your constituents welfare, more important than their lives, their children’s health and happiness, their futures.
We will let them know that YOU KNEW that the radiation that “smart” meters emit has been classified as a Class 2B carcinogen by the World Health Organization. That YOU KNEW that the electromagnetic field produced by the switching mode power supply increases your chances of getting cancer by between 65% and thirteen times. That YOU KNEW that “smart” meters have never been tested for human safety, and have been linked to numerous fires. That YOU KNEW that “smart” meters can be hacked easily, putting people at risk for being robbed and worse.
You know how we know you knew? You’ve been informed by numerous calls, emails, and newspaper and television articles. The entire state of Georgia is rapidly becoming extremely well-informed about these “Spy and Fry” digital meters, and you have absolutely no excuse for allowing our citizens to be harmed by your inaction. And each person who becomes sick, each child who dies of cancer, each homeowner who loses everything, all because of a “smart” meter, will have you to thank, and it will all be part of the public record.
So I suggest you visit www.stopsmartmetersGeorgia.Org, and find out, if you haven’t already, why Senate Bill 459 must be passed, with alacrity, to the Rules Committee. It needs a couple of changes, and you need to make sure those are taken care of. First, no one should pay for the opt out except for the power companies. They’re the ones who put these disastrous devices up, and they’re responsible for taking them down. Second, those who opt out should only be given safe, analog meters, not modified “smart” meters. Those can still cause an array of physical problems, including cancer. And the reason that children are more prone to being stricken with cancer from radiofrequency radiation is because their skulls are thinner, their brains have more liquid in them, and they are in a developmental phase of life.
Representative, do what is right by Georgians. You would not put your own family at risk, and you shouldn’t have one of these menacing meters either! Tell the power companies that they have to give us the right to opt out of these untested-for-human-safety meters that never should have gone up in the first place. Tell them in no uncertain terms that you stand for the people of Georgia, and not for the special interests that attempt to get between you and us. There is no “you” and “us.” We are one and the same. We are all Georgians.
This is specifically to get people to call the Energy Subcommittee/Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications Subcommittee before the meeting on Monday, March 19, 2012, which is at 2:00. Please send to family, friends, and everyone else you can possibly send it to that you think may be interested in not being harmed by their electric meter!
If you have a new "smart" meter electric meter, you and your family may be in danger. These meters can catch fire, explode, and melt. They shoot radiation that can cause cancer, especially in children, through your family/home hundreds of times a day. Their power supply (SMPS) can raise your chances of getting cancer by up to thirteen times! "Smart" meters aren't tested for human safety. Doctors (AAEM and others) say their installation should stop immediately.
Please call and/or email the Energy Subcommittee/Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications Committee members in the Georgia House of Representatives (contacts at www.stopsmartmetersGeorgia.Org in left-hand column) and ask them to vote "Yes" on Senate Bill 459, for an opt out option for "smart" meters. They will be meeting on Monday, March 19th, at 2:00, at the CLOB Building in Atlanta (if you can attend the meeting, that would be wonderful, too!) Tell them the opt-out should be free for all Georgians, and that we should only have safe, analog meters instead of these "Spy and Fry" meters. Tell them we’ll “Remember in November” if they did their job to protect the people and property of Georgians! For more information, visit www.stopsmartmetersGeorgia.Org. FYI, there’s NO LAW that says you have to have a "smart" meter. Thank you.
For social media or letters to the editor, or to send to family, friends, and neighbors:

The Federal Energy Policy Act of 2005, the only law that pertains, says only that you can have one if you ask for one – and no one who knows what these things are capable of is asking! Thank you.
Dear Representative,
Have you heard about the new “smart” meter electric meters? There is a great deal of concern all across Georgia about these untested-for-human-safety devices. Some wonder if they are too dangerous to even be installed on our homes. Concern is so widespread that several Georgia State Senators have put together a bill, Senate Bill 459, that will allow Georgians to opt out of having a "smart" meter put on their house, and not be charged a fee for that opt out. That bill was passed through the Senate on Wednesday, March 7th, 2012 (Crossover Day), and is now in your court, the Georgia State House of Representatives.
Back to the question about the dangers of the "smart" meter electric power meters. To make a long story quite compelling, I'll share this: When asked about the dangers of the new “smart” meter electric meters, and their effects on humans in the house where they’re installed, a power company-related person said “Well, you’re not sleeping in that room, are you?”
How would you feel if someone were to say that you had to let them paint the inside of your house with lead paint? Or cover all of your pipes with asbestos? That is how dangerous and questionable the new “smart” meter electric meters may be.
“Smart” meters have not even been UL tested, as is customary for electrical devices. Some doctors (the American Academy of Environmental Medicine- http://aaemonline.org/images/CaliforniaPublicUtilitiesCommission.pdf) have said their installation should stop immediately, until they ARE tested.
“Smart” meters use radiation to transmit their signals. They shoot radiation through you and your family hundreds of times a day, throughout the day and night. To make it sound less dangerous, the power company says the smart meter only transmits “for a TOTAL of one second a day.” They will cite the “CCST report,” and say they are within FCC guidelines. But those guidelines only cover thermal, or heating, effects.
What the power company doesn’t tell you is that there are NO guidelines to cover NON-thermal effects, in other words, damage that is done when there is no heating. The same type of radiation which smart meters emit has been shown to damage human cells. It has been shown to cause cancer, especially in children. The World Health Organization has declared radiofrequency radiation a class 2B carcinogen, just like lead paint.
When comparing whole body exposure to radiation from a smart meter and a cell phone, Professor David Hirsch found out that a smart meter puts out over FORTY TIMES MORE RADIATION than a cell phone (the power company will tell you it’s much less – please look here for the science: http://www.committeetobridgethegap.org/pdf/110212_RFrad_comments.pdf) Imagine forty cell phones attached to your wall, and on all the time. That’s important to know when you consider that your exposure to radiation is cumulative – it adds up over time.
Georgia Power uses Sensus brand meters, as does Nevada. Nevada has had hundreds of complaints, including health problems and burned-out appliances. And an Alabama Sensus employee, Don Baker, was fired because he told his superiors that Sensus “smart” meters were catching on fire and melting. They melt at 500 degrees Fahrenheit! He called the Sensus meters inaccurate, some reporting up to seven times the actual usage, and said they were “fundamentally unsound ( http://stopsmartmeters.org/2012/01/20/meters-that-endanger-shocking-details-from-a-whistleblower/ ).”
Some attribute these complaints to the “smart” meters’ “switching mode power supply.” It can create a very strong magnetic field along the wires in your home. This may be connected to reports of insomnia, irregular heartbeat, and ringing in the ears. A much higher than normal incidence of cancer has also been tied to this phenomenon, which is termed “dirty electricity,” with cancer rates going up from 65% to 13 times higher where strong electromagnetic interference exists (http://www.prevention.com/health/healthy-living/electromagnetic-fields-and-your-health).
“Smart” meters can also be hacked easily. Anyone with a laptop or a cell phone and the knowhow can figure out if you’re not using any power, because you’re not home, and they may take that opportunity to rob you.
Some places have actually criminalized the installation of smart meters (http://stopsmartmeters.org). The law, which is the Federal Energy Policy Act of 2005, says only that you can have a “smart” meter if you ask for one. Federal law does NOT say you have to have a “smart” meter (http://centerforsaferwireless.org/documents/USEnergyPolicyActof2005.pdf, page 371; look for the phrase “time-based meter”).
Taxpayers are paying the Georgia Public Service Commission to make sure we have safe electricity. That is their job. They should stop installation now, until human safety research is completed, research that should have been done before smart meters were unleashed on an unsuspecting public. England,Ireland, and Scotland have stopped involuntary installation altogether, due to health, safety, and privacy concerns, as has the state of Maine, which is following the law! You can contact the Georgia Public Service Commission at 800-282-5813, or email them at gapsc@psc.state.ga.us. Tim Echols is the new chairman (timothyechols@gmail.com).
Several states have decided NOT to have them at all. The Connecticut attorney general said “NO,” since the consumer would only save eleven dollars over a twenty year period! There was a comment in a Savannah paper recently that someone paid more this winter for their electric power, since getting their “smart” meter, than they’d ever paid in their life. A firefighter in Camden County said he was paying over 3X his normal bill!
Senate Bill 459, which will allow Georgians a FREE opt out, to avoid having a smart meter, will soon be up for a vote in the Georgia State House. As a Georgia State Representative, entrusted with the safety and well-being of Georgia citizens, I ask that you please vote “Yes” on Senate Bill 459, for your family, friends, and constituents’ sake!
There is a way to avoid getting a “smart” meter in the first place. Put a sign in a gallon Ziploc bag that says “DO NOT REPLACE METER. We refuse the smart meter due to health, safety, and privacy issues.” Tape that sign under your safe, analog meter. Tell your family, friends, and neighbors to do the same, and look out for each other
GEORGIAPOWER HAS PROMISED, ON TELEVISION, THAT THEY WOULD NOT TURN OFF OUR POWER IF WE REFUSE A SMART METER!
Thank you very much for your time, and please visit www.stopsmartmetersGeorgia.Org for more information.
Sincerely,
